So in June 2018 for my birthday I decided that I wanted to hang out with an elephant. Didn’t really want to leave the country just for that so I started researching. To my surprise I found out that I could make my birthday wish come true right in Salinas, CA!
Just about 2 hours South of San Francisco you will fine Monterey Zoo in Salinas, CA. Don’t get confused by the name. Monterey is near by BUT the zoo is indeed in Salinas!
When it comes to elephant and animal experiences in general there can be a lot of negativity attached to it. I have to admit that before I really started looking into this I have had some animal experiences that I now realize weren’t so great because the animals weren’t living in the best conditions. At this place they, the elephants specifically, *seemed* to be treated well and in my opinion this is an ethical place to visit. But of course to each his own and you can judge for yourself! Oh yea and they also have a Bed & Breakfast where you can stay and have the elephants come right up to your room! I haven’t stayed but seems like a cool experience!
